Couple pieces of advice here...

**** First, Peter the Blacksmith is an awesome craftsman. I know this because I traded my Cycle Photo Guide for a "pocket" knife he made with his own hands. The knife is the coolest I've ever seen. It's so menacing-looking and sharp that I don't know when I would actually wear it on my belt around town as my daily pocket knife ... That's a good thing! I'll try to post a photo soon of the knife at my website under my PARTS page. Now, if he makes a taller backrest and you want a taller backrest, buy his if he'll make you one. You can email him through any of his many posts here at the forum. He's in Finland but the mail back and fourth was only like a week or less! All I can say is he's a fellow Savage bro and your ride will be that much more custom than the 1,000's of other rides out there.

******Second, If you remove the sissy bar for any reason, don't try to do it without removing the fender struts first. Remove it as a whole, set it on your *covered up/protected* seat and do the sissy bar removal.

Also, when you go to remove the fender struts, wedge cardboard between the strut and the fender ASAP.

If you don't protect the fender, the assemblies are so clunky to shift around that you will scratch the hell out of your fender.

Maybe I'm just all thumbs, but boy I wish someone gave me that piece of advice before I started taking that area of the bike apart.

Want to see the devastation inexperience can cause? Visit my website: Tips & How-To's ---> Rear Chop Job link. You can see how the scratches are impacting my customization plans. Also, the photos show the fender *after* I did a jury-rig touch-up. These scratches were down to bare metal. I'm NOT proud of this, believe me, but I want you all to learn from my true "F"-up.
